Urgent Call: Participate in Transport Canada Survey

Transport Canada has quietly placed a list of questions on their website about their proposal to give permission to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority to manage the Southern Gulf Island Anchorages. The South Coast Ship Watch Alliance requests that you participate in the Transport Canada survey (link below) which closes on MAY 14, 2023.

The Alliance’s position is that the anchorages must be eliminated, not mitigated. The assignment of ships to anchorages in the Southern Gulf Islands—designated as an environmentally sensitive area—is inconsistent with the stated mission, vision, and values of the Port of Vancouver, policy positions of the BC Chamber of Shipping, and the 2022 Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

At the survey link below you are directed to respond by email ( to elaborate on their specific Key Questions. Or, simply email them at the same address and tell them you do not support having anchorages in the Southern Gulf Islands.

Please refer to our position and fact papers if you require background information to elaborate your position.
